2014 - 2015 Study Year Opening, The Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev: “Knowledge-Skills: SoftUni makes the difference”2014-10-08

8 October 2014, The Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, greets the start of the new study year in the Software University (SoftUni), sponsored by XS Software.

"Our educational content is absolutely free and open-source based" - said one of the two university founders, Svetlin Nakov. 2 years, 6 levels, 25 courses, 25 practical exams and 25 team projects keep the new joiners away from gaining developers skills in a year. "We succeeded in realizing and presenting both of our mission goals: accessible and high quality IT education for people in Bulgaria on one hand, and career fulfillment on the other”, said the other co-founder of the university, Hristo Tenchev, CEO at XS Software. This is possible thanks to the trainers’ team of IT practitioners, SoftUni’s presence in some of the main cities in the country – Varna, Bourgas, Plovdiv, etc. and the university cooperation with numerous companies from the software industry.

For the last 10 years, the number of employees in the IT sector from 9000 amounted to 33 000 people today. 40000 is the number of people estimated to be employed in this sector in the coming year. The Software University is one of the solutions for the emerging demand of IT professionals. It is an ambitious innovative project that “sets direction as a university of the future for many other universities”, said The Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev.

Long Live the Practice between XS Innovation Garage and NBU Lab2014-09-19

September 19, 2014, 12 students are eager to demonstrate their software development products after the operation BG051PO001-3.1.07 “Preparation of Practitioners in Information Technologies in the Economy of Knowledge”, funded under the Human Resources Development Operational Programme 2007-2013 from the European Social Fund. This is the second stage of the practical part of the project, after the first presentation days on June 2014. Each team has had its own mentor, task description and a timeframe for fulfilment. The applicants’ number reached 102 students from NBU, Technical Universy - Sofia, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Software University, Telerik Academy, “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse, etc. The 12 interns were organized in four teams, one from NBU students, one – without NBU students and two – mixed. There were female and male teams so that demographic data for different analyses to be available in the end.

The program is part of the Human Resources Development Operational Programs and is aimed at the synchronization of the IT education with IT business needs. Two types of practical education were tested during the program - university lab and corporate on-the-job training. Both of them are leading to different aspects of knowledge - practical skills synchronization. The methodology includes analyses of best practices with worldwide educational programs and the design of adapted learning by experiencing for NBU students as a project’s outcome.

United Collective Intelligence of XS Software Innovation Garage and NBU Lab2014-06-12

XS Software experts participate in NBU's project “Preparation of Practitioners in Information Technologies in the Economy of Knowledge”. The program is part of the 2007-2013 Human Resources Development Operational Programs and is aimed at the synchronization of the IT education with IT business needs. The project started on May 15th, 2013 and will end up in December 2014 after the completion of two main stages: methodological and practical.

The methodology includes analyses of best practices with worldwide educational programs and the design of adapted learning by experiencing for NBU students. The second stage is divided in two: real-life development tasks and an internship program. Following the mentoring tradition of the XS Innovation Garage for external game programming experiments, 5 development teams of students and mentors are working on game projects. The internship program is expected to take place in July-September 2014. Thus two types of practical education will be tested - university lab and company on-the-job training that are leading to different aspects of knowledge-practical skills synchronization.
